This week’s TV League covers the Top 5 channels across various genres – Music, GEC, Sports, etc.
The dark horse this time around is Sony Max. Backed by IPL-9 viewership ratings, Sony Max is back at the top of the charts. It comes as no surprise that many advertisers, ranging from FMCG bigwigs to newbies are lining up to get a slice of Sony Max’s IPL ad-spots. IPL 9 has witnessed many new brands advertising for the first time on TV – even titular sponsors.
It’s interesting to note that the ban on Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals by the Indian Supreme Court hasn’t deterred major brands from TV advertising. In fact, ad rates have increased by over 15% this year.
The regional goliath Sun TV continues to rule the charts, surpassing most National TV channels.
Under the Hindi GEC segment, the fantasy-fiction soap opera Naagin continues to attract viewers, and has definitely helped Colors (Viacom18) in retaining the top spot. Kumkum Bhagya is the top show on Zee TV.
Discovery Channel, Mastii, Sony SIX, Times Now & Colors are at the top the charts in their respective categories.
